About The Event
Doors 6.30pm music starts at 8pm
The Dan Banks Quintet play a mixture of Blue Note inspired originals and select material from the American Songbook. Expect an evening of dynamic jazz, revisiting the Golden Age of bebop and hardbop; reminiscent of Horace Silver, Red Garland, Wynton Kelly, and Hank Mobley.
Dan holds a Masters degree in performance (awarded with distinction) from London College of Music. His jazz influences range from Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock to the more contemporary including Jason Rebello, Michel Camilo, Miles Davis and Wynton Marsalis. In February 2017 Dan released his debut album, Two in a Box. This album was inspired by the classic Blue Note sound of Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, and many others. It consists of seven original compositions from Dan and has received highly positive reviews in numerous publications. A small tour and second album are planned for 2018/2019.
“[in] his debut as leader, he shows mastery of the hardtop idiom as composer, soloist and bandleader… if this particular band plays near you, you should try to catch it; fans of the idiom won’t be disappointed.”
Mark Gilbert (Jazz Journal)
“Without mimicry, Banks re-imagines the indomitable spirit of such masters as Red Garland, Wynton Kelly, Bobby Timmons, Horace Silver and their peers."
